The Amoral Right

It might seem quaint that one should consider morality in a post-modern world, and even more so in the context of politics. Indeed, the post-modern sensibility suggests that morality, just like so many other things in that world view, is a relative concept. So pervasive is this concept of relativity, that today, it is not just radicals and progressives who embrace it, but even so called right-leaning conservatives. No longer does the “right” in America champion Christian virtue and morality, instead, many of them embrace a sort of isolationist hedonism, so barely divorced from their sworn enemies on the left as to make them practically brothers in arms. Without fail, this new conservatism will sunder beneath the pressing of reality, and any who adhere to its tenets must repent and embrace Christian virtue, lest they plummet to the depths with this despicable world view.
This writer is just old enough to remember a time when the dichotomy of American politics was not based on morality, but rather on things like foreign policy and economics. Of course, this is not to say that moral issues were never up for grabs, but it seems these days that moral issues have become the most hotly debated. Or at least, that would seem to be the case in the culture surrounding politics. The politicians themselves are, perhaps miraculously, more honest about the question of morality in the 2020s, intentionally or not. It seems that your average republican politician is a line-toting, cowardly yes-man, only doing enough on the moral front to satiate their increasingly self-serving base. Most right-leaning congressmen will oppose only the furthest of fringe views, and then only meekly to appease their constituents. At the very least, we know that most of these politicians care only about winning elections, making money, and of course, holding on to power. Morality has no place in those unhallowed halls of congress; it can only ever get in the way. To be sure, they will scrap and argue with “the left” over the moral issues that concern their voters, but if the past century has been proof of anything, it is that the professional, political right is either unable or uninterested in stemming the tide of immorality that is overwhelming western culture.
It is important, when discussing culture in this day and age, that one remembers the extremely important distinction between what happens on social media and what happens in person. The talking heads and sloganeers online are not real, only vapor that disappears with the cleansing light of truth. They will change by the day to get attention, clicks, views, and money, and as such, Christian men of the West should place little value in online arguments and attention seeking hot takes. So pervasive and deceptive are the machinations of the online world, that every last problem forthcoming in this paper is at least made worse by the internet. Gone are the days when the discourse on morality happened at home, in philosophy classes, or in church, rather, western men seek virtue from the screen, provided by innumerable liars that manipulate for power. What is worse, it seems that the younger the man, or boy for that matter, the more likely they are to rely on the internet to catechise them, to whatever terrible end it might. This will not be the last word written about the internet in this paper, as its cataclysmic blame in this discussion is difficult to overestimate, but some relief from despair might be had by recognizing the amplifying effects of the internet and realizing that these effects rarely manifest in person, at least for now.
The relationship of the right to particularly Christian moral values is well established in the United States, to the point that those on the right that still maintain that relationship are sometimes called the “moral right”. These days, that moniker is most often applied by critics who suppose an inherent puritan contempt on the part of “moral conservatives”, and those critics do not only come from the left of the aisle. In a very real sense, conservatism without virtue will inevitably reduce itself to anarcho-libertarianism at best, or at worst, fascism. That word, fascism, is one that has lost almost all meaning in the modern discourse, but it bears mentioning here for one very important reason:
Virtue is the only defense the right has against itself.
If there is nothing to prevent the powerful on the right from gaining more power, they will soak up as much influence and capital as can be had. And if those same powerful are not prevented from abusing that power, they will use it to force those less powerful to align with their will. This is the nature of sin, and no one is immune without the blood of Christ. If the reader finds themselves thinking “but the leftists would do the same thing!”, such a reader would be correct, only, how pedantic and valueless is such a quip? Good Christian men must stand for something worth believing in, inevitably, in contrast to those that disagree; in short, we conservatives must be better than those leftists that would usurp proper authority and coerce the weak into subservience. It is intellectually inane and the very antithesis of moral to suppose that anyone should commit such great sin simply because somebody else might do it before they can. Indeed, these are often the plans and fantasies of those on the amoral right, not to make society more free, but to deprive dissidents of their autonomy because of pride and bitterness.
Not all denizens of the amoral right tend to be vengeful power gluttons, with many of the more libertarian bent eschewing morality out of some sense of futility or even false altruism. In truth, when one begins to dissect either reason, it is better to consider the amoral libertarian to be utterly selfish, rather than an altruist or realist. It must be stated first that this writer is in no way an advocate for government enforced virtue, and it is difficult to argue that such authority should not only exist to govern those that will not govern themselves, as the saying goes. The amoral libertarian takes that idea of keeping personal virtue away from the government and extends it into culture, business, and community. This turn of phrase sums up the idea quite succinctly “do whatever you want as long as it doesn’t affect me”. The amoral libertarian is only concerned with what affects them directly, and as such, will tacitly approve of all manner of debauchery because it is every person’s right to be a degenerate. Even those that claim a deep personal virtue (yes, even Christians), will sheepishly acquiesce to the deepening moral decay in the West because they cannot stop the evil degenerates from doing what they might. This is a pathetic, simpering excuse made by lackadaisical sluggards that are either too afraid or too lazy to act. No, the governments of the United States and the broader western world will never enforce moral taboos like they had in times past, and there is indeed a strong argument to say they should not, but we the people are not powerless. Men of the West must submit to Christ, and lead their families and communities to call out degeneracy whenever they see it, rather than run from it. Fathers must guard their children from the whiles and whims of this wicked world, and keep the evils of the internet demons out of their homes. The government cannot and will not guard us against immorality, so we must take up that mantle ourselves. Western men, through Christ, can change the course of these evil days through active participation in our communities, diligent attendance of faithful churches, and expansion and stalwart protection of our families.
The only group left to discuss is perhaps the most despicable of all, what might rightly be called the immoral right. Led by such horrid brutes as Andrew Tate and pushed by intellectually starved podcasts like “Fresh and Fit” and the “Whatever Podcast”, the immoral right have capitalized on nothing more than the masculine distaste for leftist politics. No matter the claimed moral stances of these men, their actions have spoken so much louder than their lying mouths ever could. These men preach only greed, hate, and brutality against their enemies, amongst whom could be counted anyone who even remotely disagrees with them. In addition, they do away with the biblical dichotomy of man and woman, reducing women to subservient sex slaves that should only be treated with bitterness and utter lack of gentleness. Some of these utter fools will claim some kind of biblical backing to their misogyny, all the while ignoring the actual prescription for men and women that God has laid down. These men capitalize on prostitutes, either as pimps or by harangueing them on their podcasts, in which the women are willing participants, hoping to receive attention in exchange for their masochism. Men like Andrew Tate, despite his recent conversion to Islam, have only ever preached a worship of money, worship of vengeance, and worship of self. Whatever pseudo-philosophy they purport, what they are really selling is utter, unadulterated selfishness. Men like Andrew Tate are brutal, manipulative, greedy, perverse, and above all, evil. Men of the West must shun these foolish brats and keep their sons from their discipleship, avoiding the temptations of their honeyed words that do nothing but reinforce sinful pride and vengeance. The righteous man should not even be accidentally cast in the same lot as these pathetic little boys, for no number of half-truths they proffer can excuse their outward evil. They cannot be allowed to speak for the men of the West any longer, and until they repent of their wickedness, they should be censured our utterly ignored. Do not look to them as role models or leaders, for our leader is Christ, and we must model manhood in his image, for the betterment of our children and the western world at large.
When men of the West forsake Christ and ignore morality, we sacrifice our most sure defense against the evils of this world. If we give in to our basest desires and grant ourselves sole authority over good and evil, we will quickly descend into the same hedonistic slough that the progressive left inhabits. We must not look to churlish brutes and evil pimps as our role models, but rather, we must look to Christ and model Him to our sons and daughters; the fools and predators online will only lead us to destruction.
There they are in great fear,
For God is with the generation of the righteous.
Psalm 14:5
